Once more we had the open-air baptisms in York this Easter.
It is great to be part of this event that has now become an annual treat.
This year we moved to the Minster where we had been given permission to use the West door steps as our platform. It is ideal, having a large square in front of it which was filled with the watching crowds.
As usual the Archbishop of York came and took part. It is good of him that he is willing to be a servant at our event, fitting in so humbly. His presence means we get greater publicity and therefore it can be an inspiration far afield of faith, the power of Jesus, and the value of Christians of different traditions working together.
See the One Voice website for an excellent report posted by Steve Redman.
Jason Kaye’s question “so what exactly are you celebrating” and the reactions that have been posted to the Evening Press article (see link below) remind me of the words of Paul writing to the Corinthians:
“For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.”
