I Saw Woman Healed

May 3rd, 2008 by graham | 0

Penny and I sent to Hastings last weekend to a wedding. It was a happy day and it was great to see so many friends from when we lived down there.

On the journey down we passed a road sign to Royston and it set us off talking about something we had both witnessed about thirty years before.

Edgar Webb was a preacher who seemed to be gifted with the ability to pray to Jesus for people to be healed, and they were! A group of us from Birmingham went to his meeting in Royston. I used to play the trumpet and as I was taking part in the programme, I sat on the front row in front of the theatre platform, on the end of the row in the centre aisle.

Edgar preached and then asked if anyone wanted to come forward to be prayed for, that they might be healed.

Many crowded forward and went up the steps which ran all along the front of the stage. As I was in the aisle I clearly saw the woman with the bowed legs pass me to go forward and I got up to help her climb the steps. I smiled to her and took her arm. I remember her. I quickly lost sight of her as others crowded behind her. I sat down watching the crowd and those who had been prayed for return to their seats.

And I saw the lady I had helped. I could describe her appearance and clothing to this day. I remember the feeling of hair rising on the back of my neck as she walked down the steps towards, then past me, as went back to her seat.

Her legs which had been so bowed, like a wish-bone, were perfectly straight and she walked without any of the difficulty she had had before.

I remember my inner conflict as my brain said, “This can not be true, such things do not happen!” And I seemed to be replying to myself and I was saying, “But I have seen it with my own eyes and others are seeing it too.” I eventually had to make the decision to believe though every instinct within me wanted to doubt.

The event left an idelible memory but I also learned a valuable lesson. Seeing is not believing. Believing is believing.
